Many people hotly debate whether Drupal or WordPress is a better solution. Ultimately, it depends on what your unique needs are.

What’s the difference between Drupal and WordPress?

Both Drupal and WordPress are Open Source content management systems. However, they’re very different from each other. WordPress is specifically built as a publishing platform, and the ease of spinning up a basic website or blog has made it the most popular CMS in the world. Drupal, on the other hand, powers some of the world’s largest and most complex websites, and is an excellent choice for organizations that want a solution that offers seamless and complex integrations.

Since Drupal and WordPress are both open source projects, they have passionate communities of developers and volunteers that support them. The clearest differentiation between Drupal and WordPress is actually in these two communities: specifically, in whether the ecosystems surrounding the platforms are paid or free. WordPress is an open-source platform with some paid plugins and themes; Drupal software, on the other hand, comes without charges.

Many of those paid WordPress extensions are quick solutions to requirements that might require custom development in Drupal. However, when it comes to making complex modifications to your site structure, Drupal is a far more powerful tool, and offers much stronger customization features.

Of course, these are only a few of the many ways that Drupal and Wordpress differ from each other. To learn more about the differences between Drupal and WordPress, and for help identifying which platform might be right for you, download the ebook from FFW.
