NYC Camp - A Perspective on This Amazing Community
It was a beautiful Saturday in New York City and, as she does every minute in the Drupal trenches, Angie Byron user "webchick," saved a fellow Drupalist. See, it was about 9:30: the time the first sessions were about to start and mine was populated with 2 people. Ever as excited about delivering my content, I almost proceeded when the irreplaceable Angie Byron popped in and said, "Kenny Wait! Don’t start yet. There’s like a hundred people listening to the plenary” - She contributes to more than just the code. She’s a veritable force of community even on the ground in the chaos of a camp.
Why the shameless plug for, inarguably, one of the platform’s most prolific contributors? Because that’s what Drupal is all about… helping each other.
That was the main theme of my session, “A Complete Guide to Being the Best Drupal Shop on the Planet”, which pulled back the curtains on our approach to scaling your Drupal business. To an audience of approximately 30 very captive attendees I covered:
- Knowledge Management
- Sales Cycles
- Developer Workflows
- Code Reviews
I was embarrassingly self-disclosing about our failures and successes to help the attendees find their way in what is an ever-growing jungle of competition. Many have asked, “But why would you share your secret sauce?” - The secret is, there is no secret sauce. Your individual artistry of implementing those tools and how they apply to your business is what sets you apart. Know the rules so you know when to break them.
