When evaluating an eCommerce solution for your digital platforms, there are several important factors to take into account. If your site is currently operating on an open-source software like Drupal, you need to identify a number of different factors before you can determine which eCommerce system will be right for you. Below are three questions that every organization should answer when trying to determine what their digital eCommerce needs are.

1. What size solution do you need?

When it comes to eCommerce, if you’re using an open-source software like Drupal, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, there are a variety of options depending on the volume and complexity of your digital operations. Whether you’re running a small eCommerce operation or a massive online storefront, the variety of different offerings available to Drupal users means that a solution is within reach for any budget.

2. What will your solution need to integrate with?

Are you going to pass information back and forth from a CRM? Are you already using certain analytics tools to measure user activity on your site? Knowing what systems you’re already using can help you narrow down the field. Some eCommerce solutions, especially closed-source solutions, have a difficult time talking to various systems. Open-source solutions are far easier to integrate with a variety of different tools, which is why we often recommend Drupal as ideal hub that can help organizations to get the very most out of their eCommerce offerings.

3. How many markets will you operate in?

If you’re only serving one national market, your requirements will be different than if you’re working in multiple or even many different markets. You’ll need to account for different kinds of shipping, currencies, and transactions. You’ll want a solution that is able to handle traffic gracefully, so that a surge in one market won’t bring down others; and, you need to make sure that whatever solution you choose can comply with each market’s laws and regulations.
